Fenty x Puma

_ARC0803Rihanna showcased her collaboration with Puma today at New York Fashion Week and after the tragic clothing from the Yeezy Season 3 this was a breathe of fresh air. The collection exuded modern urban goth and I could see myself in EVERYTHING!

The color palette was only black, white, and grey. There was lace up every where but it still kept its element of athletic being that it is a collaberation with Puma. Nonetheless, I liked the fashion. It wasn’t over the top but for Puma it was chic and fashion forward. I beg to differ that this is anything compared to the Yeezy show. This collection consisted of way more creative design elements than Yeezy’s did. Also while everyone is saying “what is fashion coming to?” Please keep in mind that this is a collaboration for Puma not Yves Saint Laurent, we are talking about a athletic brand so this is fashion forward for them.

Yeezy season 3 x Life of Pablo

Screen Shot 2016-02-11 at 8.39.09 PMYeezy season 3 has been sought after since his last reveal of Yeezy season 2. Personally, I did not like Yeezy season 2 besides the footwear. One thing I give Kanye is that his footwear is always great from when he made his first shoe with Louis Vuitton. Nonetheless many liked the collection many didn’t. I simply agree to disagree. Yeezy season 3 however was on a much different platform this time or should I say bigger venue. Kanye unveiled the collection in front of a packed Madison Square Garden arena and also in front of almost 23 million people who also viewed it live stream on tidal.

I have to say that I was confused as to why there were such a abundance of models on the stage. Some were on risen platforms on the stage and some were on the floor. But the amount on the floor was like WHOA! I found it extremely overwhelming trying to understand the collection when there was so much going on. There were over 1,000 models in the show.

Kanye also gave fans a listening party along with the show releasing his new album “The Life of Pablo” which I really enjoyed.

He used used his usual neutral color palette incorporating a pop of red and orange to the palette. The outerwear was cool but there was nothing innovative about it, and the stockings and sheer bodysuits we have seen him do before. He did state that the merchandise will be priced lower which to me was like “wtf were you waiting for? it’s stocking bodysuits and ripped sweaters for crying out loud” *sips tea*. Anyway, there were some things that I did like however;  on one of the platforms was a group of girls with interesting knee high socks and body suits. However, the strategic layout of the print, the geometrical shapes and color block I found absolutely GORGEOUS. I wish I would’ve seen more of that incorporated into the collection instead of the t-shirts and sheer tops.

I commend Kanye though for giving everyday people the opportunity to be a part of his show from the overload of extra models that were actually regular people, to the live stream, to the listen party. He gave back to his fans and thank god he’s lowering his prices! I just hope Yeezy Season 4 has more of a design aspect and more creativity into the clothing than just something we can literally buy anywhere for lower prices. Until then the outerwear was cool with shearlings, the military inspired jackets and boxy silhouettes. The footwear I LOVED. The actual clothing was ehhh… but the overall creativity behind the show and expose’ as an artist I appreciated it and think it was a very innovative presentation and one fashion week has never seen before.

His family came to support him of course, Lamar Odom even made his first public appearance. Everyone wore custom embellished Balmain pieces with exclusive Yeezy Season 3 pieces.

Public School Mens Fall 16′

Public-School-Menswear-Fall-Winter-2016-NY-001-0-bigthumbIt’s Mens Fashion week and I’ve been obsessing to see Public Schools collection. No seriously, when I found out that Public School was having a show and giving fans a free pass to see the show I assumed it would be live stream. Turns out they were giving out wristbands to some fans to watch the show because there was a small presentation was outside on the street! I so happen to have the best luck and just had surgery so participation was out the question. Nonetheless I spent all day trying to find the looks or ANYTHING. I was going to do a overall Mens Fashion Week overview post at the end of the week but decided I did too much to not blog about it right this instance.

The reason I love Public School so much is not only because it is aesthetically appealing to me, but because I feel like the brand represents what I represent as a designer as well. They make clothing that actually make sense but are comfortable and still push the envelope subtly. Public School is also made is New York. Which I LOVE. Anything made in the USA I appreciate just a little bit more because I know it was made right. Not to say clothing made in other countries is a bad thing. But at times designers do not know what is going on at their factories which lead to maliciously things being done behind closed doors to workers etc.

I appreciate that Public School gives back to the fans and just the people that admire their work. The fans that could not have the luxury of attending a fashion got first dibs on the looks. The models walked around the block to give fans theIR own mini show before they walked into the venue.

The collection gave me a nomad militarian vibe. But a nomad in the new world, urban nomad. The collection consisted of zippered blazers as a spin on the traditional double breasted, moto leather jackets, they did great incorporating army fabrications, bombers jackets graced the runway, oversized, long, short, quilted, you name it. Layers were styled used consisting of extended shirts, long sleeve shirt under short sleeve shirt jackets under coats  and collars shirts under chunky sweaters.

I loved everything about this collection from the clothing to the styling. It just made sense. Modern day survival clothing from the suits pertaining to the business side but the modernization of it. The chunky sweaters and layering of outerwear for the changing environment, the leather and denim jacket which just modern day essentials.  These are all the necessities for modern day survival.
